The story of Elisa and Eduardo Rivera and the evolution of the Rivera brand

From Elisa & Eduardo Rivera to Rivera: The Brand's Evolution

Rivera, formerly Elisa & Eduardo Rivera, is a Spanish fashion brand whose story began in Madrid in the 1970s. Over more than five decades, the project has evolved in name, channels and collections while maintaining a particular focus on pattern cutting, fit, fabrics and finishes.

If you first knew the brand as Elisa Rivera or Elisa & Eduardo Rivera, this guide looks back at how it began and how it became the Rivera of today.

Rivera's origins in Madrid

Rivera's story begins in the 1970s with Elisa Rivera. From its earliest days, the project built an identity around design and an approach to fashion based on detail, pattern cutting and a close relationship with its customers.

Over time, the brand broadened its range and adapted to new stages while retaining that foundation.

2002: Eduardo joins the project

In 2002, Eduardo joined the project alongside Elisa. Mother and son developed a first collection, which they presented at Madrid's fashion trade fair, beginning a new phase for the company.

During these years, the work expanded into fabric research, collection development and collaboration with craftspeople and workshops, while the brand increased its presence in multi-brand stores.

From multi-brand distribution to its own stores

The evolution of the business led Elisa & Eduardo Rivera to invest in its own retail spaces and a more direct relationship with customers. Opening stores brought the collections, personal advice and the brand experience closer to customers in different parts of Spain.

The online store later added another channel for browsing and buying the collections from Spain and abroad.

2023: Elisa & Eduardo Rivera becomes Rivera

In 2023, the brand took another step and adopted the name Rivera. The rebrand brought stores and collections together under a simpler name while keeping the history of Elisa and Eduardo as part of the brand's identity.

That is why older references to Elisa Rivera or Elisa & Eduardo Rivera refer to earlier stages of the same brand now known as Rivera.

What defines Rivera style today?

Beyond any one season, Rivera style aims for garments that can be integrated into different moments of the day and combined in different ways. Pattern cutting, fit, fabric selection, colour and finishes all form part of the design process.

Versatility plays an important role: the same garment can shift in character through footwear, accessories or an additional layer, helping build a wardrobe with more styling possibilities.

Responsible design and proximity

Rivera garments are designed in Spain and made in carefully selected workshops, using responsible materials and processes intended to accompany you and stand the test of time.

Most of the workshops we work with are in Spain, within 150 km of our Madrid offices. This way of working reflects our commitment to quality, design and a more conscious approach to consumption.

Rivera also works with a selection of other brands. For those products, origin and manufacturing characteristics depend on each brand and model.
